Singpass Setup 2026: How to Register, Set Up the Singpass App and Fix Common Problems

Last verified: 31 October 2026. Short answer: Singapore Citizens, Permanent Residents and FIN holders aged 15 and above can register for Singpass [GovTech]. Register on the Singpass website using Face Verification, create a password, activate SMS 2FA and update your contact details, then install the Singpass app from the official app stores [GovTech]. In the app you log in with your Singpass ID and password, verify with an SMS OTP and a face scan, and set a 6-digit passcode or biometrics [GovTech] [Singpass]. Registration does not cost anything on the official site; only use singpass.gov.sg and the official app stores.

Before you start

  • You are at least 15 and a Singapore Citizen, PR or FIN holder [GovTech].
  • The address on your NRIC or FIN card is correct [GovTech].
  • A Singapore mobile number is needed for SMS 2FA if your registered address is local; overseas users only need an email address [Singpass guide].
  • A device camera for Face Verification, which is compulsory for all users and cannot be removed [GovTech].
  • For the app: iOS 15 or later, or an Android phone with an up-to-date Play Store that is Play Protect certified. Rooted or custom-ROM devices are not supported [Singpass].

Step 1: register your Singpass account

  1. Go to the official Singpass website and choose Register [Singpass guide].
  2. Enter your details, tick the security check and accept the Terms of Use [Singpass guide].
  3. Allow camera access and complete the Face Verification scan [Singpass guide].
  4. Check your details and create a new password [Singpass guide].
  5. Add your mobile number and/or email and enter the OTP sent to you. Giving your mobile number activates SMS 2FA [Singpass guide].

Step 2: set up the Singpass app

  1. Download Singpass from the Apple App Store, Google Play or Huawei AppGallery. Check the developer is Government Technology Agency, and never install it from other websites [Singpass].
  2. Open the app and acknowledge the Terms and Privacy statement [Singpass].
  3. Log in with your Singpass ID (your NRIC or FIN by default) and password [Singpass].
  4. Verify: local users enter the SMS OTP and do a face scan; overseas users do a face scan [Singpass].
  5. Confirm your identity details, then set your passcode and, if you like, fingerprint or face login [Singpass].
  6. Finish by turning on notifications. You can now log in by tapping or scanning a QR code and use the Digital IC at government counters [Singpass].

Moving to a new phone

If the Singpass app is already on your old phone, use the app-to-app setup: scan the Singpass QR code with Bluetooth on for both devices [Singpass]. Otherwise, use the SMS OTP and face scan route [Singpass].

Common problems

  • Face Verification fails: your photo on record with ICA may need updating [Singpass]. Use good lighting and remove glasses or a hat.
  • App will not install or open: update the Play Store or iOS, and avoid devices with custom ROMs or rooting [Singpass].
  • Forgot your Singpass ID or password: use the retrieve or reset options on the Singpass site [Singpass].

Stay safe

Never share your password, OTP or a Face Verification request with anyone, including callers who claim to be from a bank or government agency. Singpass uses Face Verification for higher-risk transactions so that only you can make changes to your account [GovTech]. Once set up, Singpass lets you use services such as CPF; see our MediSave guide and IRAS filing guide.
