Validity and when to renew

Passports are valid for 10 years for citizens aged 16 and above, and 5 years for those below 16 [ICA]. For 5-year passports, up to 9 months left on the old passport can be carried over [ICA]. Many countries want at least 6 months of validity on arrival, so renew once you are inside the 9-month window. You can keep travelling on your current passport while the new one is processed, as long as it is not damaged and has more than 6 months left [ICA].

Step by step: renew online

  1. Get a digital photo taken within the last 3 months that meets ICA's photo guidelines. A rejected photo is the most common cause of delay and can push processing to 4 weeks [ICA].
  2. Log in with Singpass on ICA's passport e-service (go.gov.sg/passport or MyICA) [ICA].
  3. Fill in the form and upload the photo.
  4. Pay S$70 online [ICA].
  5. Wait 1 to 2 weeks. ICA tells you the result by post or email [ICA]. You can check status by logging in with Singpass.
  6. Book collection within 1 month of approval, at a participating SingPost outlet or the ICA Services Centre [ICA].
  7. Collect in person with your current passport and your digital or physical IC [ICA]. Parents can collect for children below 6.

Collection details

The ICA Services Centre is at 2 Crawford Street, Level 2, open 8.00 am to 4.30 pm on weekdays and closed on weekends and public holidays [ICA]. Post office appointments have a 4-day collection window [ICA]. ICA cancels passports not collected within 3 months, and the fee is not refunded [ICA]. Avoid Mondays, Fridays and school holidays if you can, since queues are longer then [ICA].

Renewing from overseas

Citizens living abroad can apply online with Singpass or in person at a Singapore Overseas Mission using the overseas form. Processing takes about 4 to 6 weeks, and the passport is sent to the mission you choose [ICA]. Mission fees are charged as the equivalent of S$80 in local currency [ICA].

Lost or damaged passport

Report the loss on ICA eServices first [ICA eServices], then apply for a new passport and pay the fee plus the S$50 (first) or S$100 (later) penalty [ICA].
