CPF Withdrawal at 55 (2026): How Much You Can Take Out, the S$5,000 Rule and How to Apply
Last verified: 30 October 2026. Short answer: at 55, CPF creates your Retirement Account (RA) and moves Special Account, then Ordinary Account savings into it up to your Full Retirement Sum (FRS) [CPF]. If you have set aside the FRS, you can withdraw the rest of your OA savings. If not, you can still withdraw up to S$5,000 [CPF] [CPF]. Property owners whose lease lasts to at least 95 can pledge the property and withdraw RA savings above the Basic Retirement Sum [CPF]. Apply online with Singpass; the default online limit is S$2,000 a day [CPF].

What happens on your 55th birthday
- CPF opens your Retirement Account [CPF].
- Special Account savings move to the RA first, then Ordinary Account savings, until the RA reaches your Full Retirement Sum [CPF].
- Anything above the FRS stays in your OA and is withdrawable [CPF].
- RA savings earn the same long-term interest rate as the Special Account and later fund your monthly CPF LIFE payouts [CPF].
For people turning 55 in 2026, CPF's own example uses an FRS of S$220,400 [CPF]. See all three sums in our CPF retirement sums 2026 guide.
How much you can withdraw
| Your situation at 55 | What you can withdraw |
|---|---|
| FRS set aside in cash (or cash plus property) | Any amount from your OA [CPF] |
| FRS not met | Up to S$5,000 from your OA; on each withdrawal, the rest of the OA may move to the RA to build up the FRS [CPF] |
| Own a property with lease to at least age 95 and pledge it | RA savings above the Basic Retirement Sum; you must refund to restore the RA to the FRS if you sell [CPF] |
| Age 65 and above | An extra amount from the RA, depending on birth year: up to 20% of retirement savings at 65 (less the S$5,000) for those born in 1958 or later [CPF] |
CPF's example: John turns 55 in 2026 with S$100,000 in his RA and S$5,000 in his OA, which later grows to S$7,000. He has not reached the S$220,400 FRS, so he can withdraw only S$5,000. The other S$2,000 moves to his RA [CPF].
Step by step: apply
- Check your withdrawable amount on the Retirement Dashboard after logging in with Singpass [CPF].
- Update your bank account in Account settings. PayNow NRIC-linked accounts take effect after a 12-hour cooling period; other accounts can take up to two working days after your bank confirms [CPF].
- Set your Daily Withdrawal Limit. The default online limit is S$2,000; you can raise it to a maximum of S$50,000, again after a 12-hour cooling period [CPF].
- Submit the withdrawal online. You can withdraw as many times as you like from your withdrawable savings, so there is no need to take everything at once [CPF].
- For more than S$50,000, spread the withdrawal over several days or book an appointment at a CPF Service Centre, where the daily limit does not apply [CPF].
- Lower the limit again afterwards, or turn on the CPF Withdrawal Lock to block online withdrawals entirely [CPF].
Should you withdraw?
Money left in CPF keeps earning interest, and RA savings above the minimum increase your CPF LIFE monthly payouts from 65. Withdrawing makes sense for a specific need such as clearing expensive debt or a planned expense, not simply because it is available. As our own illustration, S$50,000 left to compound at 4% a year for 10 years grows to about S$74,000. Try your own figures in the compound interest calculator or the savings calculator.
Watch out for scams
Withdrawal season is a target for scammers. CPF never asks you to share Singpass details or transfer money. Keep the Daily Withdrawal Limit low until you need it and consider the Withdrawal Lock [CPF].
