STR 2027 (Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah): Amounts, Eligibility and How to Apply or Update

Last verified: 5 November 2026. Short answer: STR 2027 applications and updates are open all year from 15 October 2026 on the official portal bantuantunai.hasil.gov.my or at a HASiL office [STR portal]. Under Budget 2027, households earning RM2,500 or less get STR cash of RM200 to RM1,600 depending on the number of children, plus RM1,800 of SARA credit [MOF Budget 2027]. Payment dates for 2027 had not been announced when we checked.

Talreon is not an official government site. We are an independent publisher and are not affiliated with the Ministry of Finance, HASiL (LHDN) or the STR Secretariat. This page explains the process in our own words; the agency's own website and notices are the final word. Educational information only; not financial, tax, legal, or investment advice.

Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) is the federal government's cash aid for lower-income households, single seniors and single people. It is paid together with Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA), a credit used for basic necessities at participating shops. HASiL (the Inland Revenue Board, also known as LHDN) runs the application system for the Ministry of Finance (MOF). This guide sets out the 2027 amounts announced in Budget 2027, who each category covers, and how to apply or update your details.

STR 2027 amounts at a glance

The Budget 2027 touchpoints document from MOF sets the combined allocation for STR and SARA at RM16.0 billion [MOF Budget 2027]. The amounts depend on monthly household income and the number of children.

Two more SARA items are listed in the same document. Poor and hardcore poor households can receive SARA of up to RM250 a month. SARA MADANI gives RM100 twice in 2027 to adults aged 18 and above who are not already STR or SARA recipients [MOF Budget 2027]. The totals in our tables simply add the published STR and SARA figures; they are not a separate official number.

Who STR is for

  • Households: a married applicant with a household income of up to RM5,000 a month. The cash amount rises with the number of children, and households earning RM2,500 or less receive more.
  • Seniors without a spouse: aged 60 and above with income of up to RM5,000.
  • Single people: aged 21 to 59 with income of RM2,500 or less. For 2027 this group receives SARA credit rather than STR cash.

The STR Secretariat checks applications against government records, so the income you declare should match what other agencies hold. Approval, and the final amount, are decided by the Secretariat, not by the applicant's own reading of the table. If your situation is unusual (for example, a recent divorce, a death in the family, or a change of address), update the application and keep supporting documents ready in case you are asked for them.

How to apply or update for STR 2027

The official portal states that STR 2027 applications are open throughout the year from 15 October 2026, and that applicants who have not updated their application for three consecutive years must update it for 2027 so that their details are current and accurate [STR portal]. There are two channels:

  1. Online: go to the official STR 2027 portal at bantuantunai.hasil.gov.my. New applicants register; existing applicants log in to MySTR.
  2. In person: submit the application form at the nearest HASiL office.

Updating through MySTR

  1. Open bantuantunai.hasil.gov.my and choose the MySTR login. From 15 October 2026 you can use your existing login details.
  2. Check your personal details, marital status, household income, spouse details and children.
  3. Check your bank account details carefully, because payments are made to the account on record.
  4. Submit the update and keep a screenshot or record of the confirmation.
  5. Return later to the status check to see whether the application is approved.

If you forget your password and fail the security question five times, your MySTR ID is blocked and you can try again after 24 hours [STR portal]. For help, contact a HASiL office or the HASiL hotline below.

When STR 2027 is paid

STR has historically been paid in several phases during the year, with the government announcing each phase. When we checked on 5 November 2026, we did not find an official payment schedule for STR 2027 on the STR portal or in the Budget 2027 document, so we have not listed dates. Watch the "Maklumat Terkini" (latest information) page on the portal for the official announcement rather than relying on dates passed around on social media.

How SARA credit works

SARA is not cash in your bank account. It is credit linked to the recipient's MyKad that can be spent on eligible basic items at participating shops. Because the list of shops and items can change, check the current MOF or SARA information before you travel to a store. Treat any page, message or app that asks for your MyKad number and password to "activate" SARA with suspicion; the official channels are government sites.

Common reasons an application has problems

  • Bank account details that are wrong, closed or not in the applicant’s name.
  • Household income or marital status that does not match government records.
  • Not updating for three years in a row, which the portal says now requires an update.
  • Duplicate applications by both spouses for the same household.

Avoid STR scams

The government's official STR site is bantuantunai.hasil.gov.my. Be cautious of links sent by text message or messaging apps that copy the STR name, ask for your online banking login, or charge a fee to "help" you apply. Applying and updating is free. If in doubt, call the official numbers below or visit a HASiL office.
