How to File Your Malaysia Income Tax Online (e-BE / e-Filing): Step-by-Step Guide

Last verified: 28 October 2026 against LHDN's income declaration page and individual FAQ. Short answer: log in at mytax.hasil.gov.my, open ezHasil Services → e-Filing, choose the form for your income type (e-BE if you have no business income, e-B if you do), check the pre-filled figures against your EA form, sign and submit. LHDN lists the e-BE online date as on or before 15 May and e-B as on or before 15 July, and says these online dates can change each year.

Who needs to file

LHDN's FAQ says each taxable individual must declare their income, and lists the people who must register a tax number (TIN). Examples include a single person earning employment income above RM34,001 a year after EPF deduction, or a married person with a non-working spouse earning above RM46,001 [LHDN FAQ Q1]. Malaysian citizens and permanent residents aged 18 and above get a TIN automatically from National Registration Department data [LHDN FAQ]. If your only income is salary and you meet every "MTD as final tax" condition, you may be able to skip filing. See our PCB/MTD guide.

Step by step: first-time login to MyTax

  1. Go to mytax.hasil.gov.my, choose your identification type and enter your IC number, then click Submit [source].
  2. If the screen says "Digital Certificate does not exist", choose one of the two options LHDN offers: e-CP55D (matching your details on the web) or e-KYC (face verification in the MyTax mobile app) [source].
  3. With e-CP55D, LHDN matches your details with its records. If you have no registered email, you are asked to add one and upload a colour copy of your ID, which an LHDN officer reviews [MyTax FAQ].
  4. Create your password and security phrase, agree to the terms and submit. Your account is active once the message that your digital certificate was registered appears [source].
  5. LHDN's 2026 e-Filing guide says the digital certificate is valid for three years and can be renewed by clicking "Agree" on the message in MyTax [e-Filing guide PDF].

Step by step: completing e-BE

  1. Log in with your ID number, confirm your security phrase and enter your password [e-Filing guide]. LHDN warns that five wrong attempts temporarily lock the account [e-Filing guide].
  2. Go to ezHasil Services → e-Filing and open the e-Form for the right year of assessment [e-Filing guide].
  3. Review the pre-filled personal details and update anything that is wrong [e-Filing guide].
  4. Enter employment income and the monthly tax deduction (MTD/PCB) amount from your EA/EC form, rounded to the nearest ringgit, or 0 if none [e-Filing guide].
  5. Enter your reliefs (see our relief checklist), plus any donations and any CP500 instalments paid [e-Filing guide].
  6. Check the computed result, then digitally sign and submit. A confirmation appears once the return is submitted [FAQ Q17]. Save or print the acknowledgement.

Documents to have ready

  • EA/EC form from your employer [FAQ Q9]
  • Dividend vouchers, insurance premium receipts, book and donation receipts, and zakat receipts [FAQ Q9]
  • Child's birth certificate and marriage certificate, if you claim related reliefs [FAQ Q9]
  • You don't attach these to the return, but LHDN says to keep them for seven years [FAQ Q8].

If you owe tax or made a mistake

  • Pay any balance through ByrHASiL (FPX internet banking) or LHDN's collection agents [FAQ Q45]. LHDN lists individual payment codes 084 and 095 [FAQ Q48].
  • LHDN's FAQ describes a 10% penalty on tax not paid after 30 April of the following year, and a further 5% if the tax and penalty are still unpaid 60 days later [FAQ Q53]. Check the current rules with LHDN for business filers and your own case.
  • A return can only be submitted once. To correct an under-declaration, LHDN refers to the Amended Return Form (ARF) for BE/B [FAQ Q18].
