How to check a bank or financial provider in Malaysia
Use the regulator and deposit insurer’s own search tools before sending money or sharing sensitive information. This page links to live official registers rather than copying lists that can become outdated.
- Confirm the firm and contact details against the relevant official register.
- For bank deposits, check whether the institution is a PIDM member and whether the specific deposit is eligible.
- Check BNM’s Financial Consumer Alert list, but do not interpret absence from that list as proof that a provider is licensed.
- Contact the provider through contact details found independently on its official website.
Official Malaysia lookup tools
PIDM member banks
PIDM lists its member banks, including licensed digital banks. Membership does not mean every product or balance is covered: protection rules, eligible deposit types and limits apply.
BNM Financial Sector Participants Directory
Use Bank Negara Malaysia’s official directory to check institutions and activities it licenses or regulates.
BNM Financial Consumer Alert list
This is an awareness list, not a complete register. BNM says that an entity’s absence from the alert list does not confirm that it is licensed or regulated.
Compare savings products
See Talreon’s dated snapshot of selected Malaysian bank savings accounts and jars, with official provider links and conditions.
Bank, e-wallet and investment products are different
A digital bank deposit, e-money wallet balance and investment or cash-management product can have different legal protections and risks. Do not assume a familiar brand name or an advertised return means a product is a bank deposit or is covered by PIDM. Verify the issuer and exact product terms with the official sources.
Keep the evidence current
Official registers and alerts can change without notice. Talreon links to live lookup pages and does not certify, endorse, rank or guarantee any provider. Recheck immediately before opening an account or transferring funds. Report a broken link or correction to Talreon.
