PTPTN Repayment Guide 2026: When to Start, Monthly Schedule, How to Pay and What Happens If You Miss

Last verified: 30 October 2026. Short answer: start repaying your PTPTN loan 12 months after your studies end, without waiting for a notice [PTPTN]. The repayment period depends on the loan: 5 years up to RM10,000, 10 years to RM22,000, 15 years to RM50,000, and 20 years above that [PTPTN]. Pay in myPTPTN, by JomPAY, at banks, by salary deduction, or with your KWSP savings, and pay by the 27th for it to show in that month's statement [PTPTN].

This page explains the process in our own words; the agency's own website and notices are the final word. Educational information only; not financial, tax, legal, or investment advice.

Step 1: find out when you must start

PTPTN says repayment starts 12 months after your loan ends, and you should not wait for a reminder [PTPTN]. For Ujrah loans the 1% a year ujrah charge starts from month 13. Paying during the grace period reduces the amount the charge applies to [PTPTN].

Step 2: check your schedule and balance

  1. Log in to the myPTPTN app or myPTPTN web. New users since 15 September 2025 register only through MyDigital ID [PTPTN FAQ].
  2. Go to Perkhidmatan → Bayaran Balik Pinjaman to see your balance, or Semakan Penyata for the statement [PTPTN].
  3. Note the monthly instalment on your repayment schedule (jadual bayar balik) and the date your first payment was due.

Because ujrah is charged as a flat rate, the effective rate is higher than the headline. You can see the difference with our flat rate to effective rate calculator.

Step 3: choose how to pay

Step 4: pay in myPTPTN

  1. Tap Pembayaran Pinjaman, enter your MyKad number and pick the loan account [PTPTN].
  2. Check the borrower details and enter the amount.
  3. Choose FPX and your bank, then confirm with Sah & Bayar [PTPTN].
  4. Save or print the receipt.

Pay by the 27th of the month so the payment is reflected in that month's statement [PTPTN].

Settling the loan in full

Before paying everything off, request a balance confirmation in myPTPTN so you pay the exact settlement amount. After full settlement, the debt release letter (Surat Pelepasan Hutang, SPH) can be downloaded in myPTPTN [PTPTN]. Discounts for full settlement or a minimum lump sum are announced from time to time; see our PTPTN discounts guide for what applies now.

If you fall behind

Missed payments can lead to your details being listed with credit reporting agencies and, for borrowers who are not repaying, a travel ban through the immigration department. Check your status in our PTPTN travel ban check guide and your credit file in our CCRIS guide. The fastest fix is usually to contact PTPTN to agree a restructured schedule and then keep every payment on time.

Budgeting your repayment (our own illustration)

A RM30,000 Ujrah loan on the 15-year schedule works out to about RM192 a month including ujrah (RM30,000 plus 1% a year for 15 years, divided by 180 months). Paying RM300 a month instead clears it years earlier. Plug in your own figures in the loan calculator or plan a faster payoff with the debt payoff calculator. Your official schedule in myPTPTN is the final figure.
