JPJ Driving Licence Renewal 2026: CDL Fees (RM20 a Year), MyJPJ Steps and the 3-Year Rule
Last verified: 31 October 2026. Short answer: a Malaysian citizen renewing a competent driving licence (CDL) pays RM20 a year for class B2, B or C, RM2 a year for class A/A1 and RM30 a year for class D and above [JPJ]. You can renew for 1 to 5 years at a time, as long as you are not blacklisted [JPJ]. Renew online through the MyJPJ app, MySIKAP or MyEG, or at JPJ counters, Pos Malaysia counters and self-service kiosks [MyGOV]. A licence that has been expired for more than 3 years cannot be renewed, and you have to apply for a licence again from the start [MyGOV].

CDL renewal fees (citizens)
| Licence class | Fee per year | Example: 5-year renewal (our arithmetic) |
|---|---|---|
| A / A1 | RM2 [JPJ] | RM10 |
| B2 (single), B, C | RM20 [JPJ] [JPJ fee table] | RM100 |
| D and above (D, E, F, G, H, I) | RM30 [JPJ] | RM150 |
The fee is charged per class held, so someone renewing both class B2 and class D pays both rates. Non-citizen rates differ; check the JPJ pages before you pay. JPJ's fee table also lists other driving licence charges, such as RM20 for a copy of a driving licence and RM150 for an International Driving Permit [JPJ fee table].
How long you can renew for
A CDL can be renewed for 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 years only [JPJ]. Longer terms cost more upfront but mean fewer renewals. Learner licences (LDL) run for 3 or 6 months and vocational licences (PSV, GDL) for 1 year [MyGOV].
The 3-year rule: do not leave it too late
Licences that have been expired for more than 3 years are invalid and cannot be renewed (learner licences aside). You would have to repeat the whole licensing process from the beginning [MyGOV]. Probationary licence (PDL) holders cannot renew the PDL after its 2-year period and must convert to a CDL within 1 year [MyGOV]. Driving on an expired licence is a separate risk, so renew before the expiry date.
Option 1: renew online
Online channels are the MyJPJ mobile app, the MySIKAP portal and the MyEG portal [MyGOV]. After renewing, you can show the digital licence in the MyJPJ app [MyGOV].
- Download the official MyJPJ app from your phone's app store, or open MySIKAP on the JPJ website.
- Log in or register with your MyKad details.
- Choose driving licence renewal and select the class and the number of years (1 to 5).
- Check the total and pay online.
- Open the digital licence in MyJPJ to confirm the new expiry date.
Option 2: renew at a counter
Counter renewals are accepted at JPJ state and branch offices, UTC centres, 1JPJ counters, eKhidmat kiosks and Pos Malaysia offices [JPJ]. JPJ lists these documents [JPJ]:
- Your original MyKad (or passport for foreigners, who must hold a valid passport).
- Your driving licence or a copy.
- One colour photo with a white background, 25 mm x 32 mm.
- If someone renews for you: a copy of your MyKad or passport, plus the representative's own original identity document.
- The fee for the years and classes you choose.
Quick checklist
- Check your expiry date in MyJPJ or on your card.
- Make sure you are not blacklisted (for example, over unpaid summonses), because blacklisted licences cannot be renewed [JPJ].
- Pick the term: 5 years at RM20 a year is RM100 for a car licence (our arithmetic).
- Keep the payment receipt until the new expiry date shows in MyJPJ.
