Hourly to Salary Calculator

Convert an hourly wage to annual, monthly, bi-weekly and weekly pay, with optional overtime, or work back from a salary to an hourly rate.

How to convert hourly pay to salary: annual pay = hourly rate × hours per week × paid weeks a year. Monthly pay = annual ÷ 12. To go the other way, hourly rate = salary ÷ (hours per week × paid weeks).

Example: $22.50 an hour × 40 hours × 52 weeks = $46,800 a year, or $3,900 a month and $1,800 every two weeks.

How this calculator works

Annual pay is the hourly rate multiplied by paid hours over the year. Overtime hours are counted at the overtime multiplier. In the U.S., the Fair Labor Standards Act requires covered, non-exempt employees to receive at least time and a half for hours over 40 in a workweek. Rules elsewhere differ, so set the multiplier to match your contract. Switch to Salary → hourly rate to divide a salary back into an hourly figure.

Hourly to salary formula

Annual = rate × paid weeks × (regular hours + overtime hours × multiplier)
Hourly = salary ÷ (paid weeks × (regular hours + overtime hours × multiplier))

Worked examples: hourly wage to annual salary

ScenarioAnnualMonthlyBi-weekly
$22.50/hour, 40 h/week, 52 weeks$46,800.00$3,900.00$1,800.00
$22.50/hour, 40 h + 4 h overtime at 1.5×, 50 paid weeks$51,750.00$4,312.50$1,990.38
$65,000 salary, 37.5 h/week, 52 weeks → hourly$33.33 an hour

A quick check: at 40 hours and 52 weeks there are 2,080 paid hours a year, so $25/hour is $52,000.

Common mistakes

  • Using 52 weeks when unpaid leave or gaps between contracts mean fewer paid weeks.
  • Treating gross pay as take-home pay. Tax and deductions come off afterwards.
  • Confusing bi-weekly (26 pays) with semi-monthly (24 pays).
  • Comparing an hourly contract rate with a salary without allowing for benefits and paid leave.
